Speaker 1:

Hi everybody, bruce Shooter here and welcome to the Mental Health Warrior Program podcast, no Surrender. Now, along the lines of that, today I want to talk about something that will help us in this goal of never surrendering to life's challenges, and one of those things is a warrior principle. Now the Mental Health Warrior actually has 15 of them. Think of them as a guide, or a game day plan, if you will, and the action plan of what to do during the game. So we have 15 of them, that kind of outline, some core pieces of being a mental health warrior and how you can use those to take action each day and triumph over your challenges. So I hope you're excited, because today we're just going to explore one of them, one out of 15. So just to see the power in what the first one has that we can use each and every day. Now let me just circle back real quick. So all of these warrior principles and everything we're going to talk about here with the warrior program is outlined in my book. I Triumphed Over Bipolar Alcoholism and Anxiety Disorders by Becoming a Mental Health Warrior, and the reason I bring that up is not only does it have my story, but what else it has in. It is the blueprint for becoming a mental health warrior and unlocking that power that I use to triumph over my challenges, and you can do the same. Now the exciting part is the blueprint has four components for the warrior, but what we also have in the way we end the book is to talk about the 15 warrior principles, and these principles again are a bit of a guidance that you can use each day and they're also a bit of action steps where they inspire action. So let's jump right into it and I think you'll understand this as we pick one of them. So I have the book right here. I'm going to grab out of this book here and, just in case you're on audio only, we're grabbing that triumph book and number nine. So remember, we have 15 of them. We're going to go after number nine today because it is very powerful.

Speaker 1:

It is never let life's challenges tell you there are no answers. Now that is something as a warrior that you could probably jump right in and say, wow, I can see that it's very warrior-like, which is excellent because, remember, we are warriors but we're also thinking and taking action. So we kind of have that game plan. We're using this where we say we do not accept, if you have a challenge, that there are no answers. And the reason we don't do that and I will tell you personally, the reason this is so important is when I had all of my challenges running my life, I had no power, I was powerless and I had things. Bipolar would send me spinning around, and emotions. Alcoholism filled my days as I was trying to escape from my emotions and anxiety. Well, it was just everywhere and you can imagine I'm bouncing like a ping ball between all of these different challenges.

Speaker 1:

Now, these are mental health disorder challenges, but they're also affecting and they're being part of, if you will, the challenges of life going to a job, financial challenges, interacting with friends, family, co-workers. So you can see, we have a mix and a host of challenges out there, and one of the things we're trying to do is decide today and I'm trying to show you is, as a warrior, how can we harness that power. Things we're trying to do is decide today and I'm trying to show you is, as a warrior, how can we harness that power. So we're going to go today and talk about that one warrior principle, because I found it to be a great starting point. And then I also found, once you leap off, if you will, and get started with that, you can actually use this every day and it will just help you build your warrior power. So one of the first things that I want to bring up is when we are facing a host of challenges.

Speaker 1:

Now these can be, like I said, mental health diagnosis, a disorder challenge, something you're simply self-aware of or it can be a life challenge, one of the first things a warrior does and remember. This is really important and it was powerful for me. So I get a One of the first things a warrior does and remember. This is really important and it was powerful for me. So I get a little excited because the first thing we say is I know there's an answer out there. Now the challenge is they don't want us to think there's answers, they want us to cave. Now I did this, I caved, and for years they ran my life and that is not a good result. Matter of fact, it brought me, as I've talked about in some of these others, to where I really didn't even want to be part of this life anymore. That's the power they have when we try to either give them all that power or when we just let them run wild. So we do not want to do that.

Speaker 1:

So the first thing and the first stance we take as a warrior is to say I don't care what challenges I'm facing, I don't care what new challenges come up, but I will tell you what I know. There are answers and as a warrior, I'm going to find them because I've got this whole program backing me and you. So I'm saying that for both of us, because I built the program. Obviously I had to build it first to rescue myself, so that I could bring it to you guys and we could all become warriors and triumph over challenges. So the exciting part is we are going to step up and we're going to kind of take our sword. Let's just pretend, since we're warriors or maybe you have that spear and you can imagine we're going to stomp it under the ground and make that statement to ourselves.

Speaker 1:

Because, as I talk a lot of times, the first person you have to convince if you're struggling with a challenge, the first person you have to convince in order to take action, you got it yourself. So we need to convince ourselves and let ourselves know that it is okay to have challenges. But we're going to take a stand and say I know there are answers and I'm going to find them as a mental health warrior. Now that is a very powerful first step, and you can certainly see how, when I decided to change and build this mindset of a warrior, a mental health warrior, this set me on a brand new, exciting path, a path where I was going to find answers and I was going to triumph over these challenges. Now that's something I've been able to do, because today I still face these challenges, because they're chronic conditions and they also face a host of other challenges, because I like to be involved in things in life, like I'm sure many of you do. We like to get excited and take on new projects, new interests, and when we do all that well, we are gonna be faced with challenges. It's just part of what comes along in life. When you go after things, you're gonna have new challenges. But I go into all of these, and today I go into them knowing that, even if I struggle a bit, I have warrior tools to help me out. I know that as I struggle and as I make progress though, as I make those small triumphs each day that I will build to being able to handle those bigger and bigger challenges.

Speaker 1:

Remember things like let's just take anxiety disorders or just anxiety itself. The biggest challenge is we have to work up to things. We're not just going to figure out a tool that works great and the next thing you know you're speaking in front of 10,000 people and you're totally at ease. It won't happen overnight and I'm sorry to burst your bubble on that, but what you can do is you can start getting comfortable with talking to your family, to your friends, and then you start getting comfortable just meeting other people as you're out, running errands or out in town, and again it will build before you even know it. You'll be talking to strangers as you're involved in things, as you're at stores, as you're just going around town, and it is exciting because it will continue to build based on you saying I'm going to step up because I know there are answers, and the answer is being a mental health warrior. So again, we have that great game plan. Now we also need to be able to take action each day.

Speaker 1:

So one of the things this helps me is if my bipolar sends me into depression or just depression pops up. Maybe it's part of bipolar, maybe it's depression itself. I'm just doing little air quotes and making a little joke, because depression is depression. When you get stuck in depression, well, we know what that feels like. It just feels like there's no point, there's no energy to keep going and we feel like we've run into a brick wall, if you will, and we're just looking at everything as it's 10 times harder.

Speaker 1:

But one of the things we can do as a warrior is we go back to this principle. We go back to this exciting principle that says I, as a warrior, know and will not let my challenges tell me that there are no answers, so we will build a bevy of tools, we'll build that arsenal of tools that we have as a warrior and then when depression strikes like it does occasionally and, like I said, sometimes when you have bipolar, it throws you in depression for no reason. It doesn't even make sense. It's not like things necessarily went bad. What happened is it just wants to send me that way and it tries to convince me that everything's terrible. And I'm going to tell you we can poke holes in that, because it's lying to us. And one of the ways we do that is we know this warrior principle. Yes, bring you back to that. And I know that principle says there are answers. So that encourages me to use some of my tools. It encourages me to use warrior weapons, the warrior arsenal, even this mindset to keep going Because, again, like I stated, the biggest thing we do not want to do is give up power at any point.

Speaker 1:

We are making progress each day as warriors and no matter how many challenges you face, no matter what point you're at in those challenges you know if they're new, I've been living with them for years, things like that the important part is that we keep moving forward each day, and that's where I found this warrior principle and remember, this is just one out of 15, but this one contains a wealth of power and motivation to keep us going, because it is a very powerful statement and mindset that we are making as warriors. Interesting is this is again something you can use throughout, each and every day, and I want to remind you at this point. There is an entire program. So we have the mental health warrior program. We have four components of a warrior, we have a plethora of mental health warrior tools to fill your arsenal with, and all this information I'm going to throw this out there is at bruce shooter dot com, and the reason being is we are always going to be well-armed and the program gives us a lot of structure to take that action and harness that power. So, again, it's really exciting because what we're trying to do here is in these videos and in this podcast. I'm just trying to give you one little piece, but I want to remind you that piece, that piece of being a warrior, this one warrior principle, is part of a larger subset. It's part of a larger set sorry, not a subset, a larger set. And that set of 15 is something that you have as like a roadmap plus the four warrior components to keep going each and every day. So I hope you're excited about hearing about this and I'm excited to tell you about just one of these principles.

Speaker 1:

And I also wanted to leave you with a little quick story, because what can happen is these principles. Like I said, they can keep you out of trouble and they can also get you out of trouble. So one of the things that can happen, especially in this current climate, current day and age, with the economy and things, is there are a lot of times these days that, out of the blue, expenses go up. So I'm going to use something that is not a mental health disorder, but it could seriously be affected by my mental health disorders. So it's financial challenges. I like to bring that up because financial challenges obviously they could pair well with anxiety, they could pair well with bipolar, swinging you through your emotional spectrum and you're saying, oh my God, I don't know what to do and my finances are struggling.

Speaker 1:

Well, one of the things that this can do is it can help us, this principle. One of the neat things is it can apply, and I thought there was kind of a unique way to leave it with you is lately I've had a lot of expenses and charges that have gone up in my personal life. Now, as everyone else is experiencing, you go to the grocery store one week, next week everything is more expensive. You go to get gas and it seems to fluctuate between high prices and high prices and again, a lot of times, things we go to do they just sort of creep up and the next thing, you know, there's less and less coupons, less and less deals out there and we're paying more for everything. So let's just lump this together as we are all facing tough financial challenges.

Speaker 1:

Now you're probably saying, bruce, I thought we were talking about mental health, and we are, and financial challenges are one of those big things that can impact your mental health and seriously take you down, especially if you are prone to or suffer from some mental health disorders, like I am. So it's important that I have a plan to take care of the finances and again, you can probably see where I'm going. But this past two weeks I have depended on this warrior principle. I've been repeating it to myself every morning because I know I have to gear up to face some financial challenges, face ways to figure out ways. How are we going to cut the budget a little, maybe? How are we going to save a little bit but still live life? So again, I have been doing that personally and I thought what an interesting concept. I wanted to bring it up to you because I thought what an interesting mix of a life challenge, a mental health challenge, and then the all-powerful warrior component which helps us.

Speaker 1:

So today, walk away and get ready tomorrow to start using this.

Speaker 1:

You can become a warrior and use this one piece here, this one warrior principle Never let your challenges tell you there are no answers.

Speaker 1:

That will get you going each day on a forward path. The rest of it. Go check out and learn more about being a mental health warrior at BruceShootercom. Get excited about all the information there, because we have a free book that'll introduce you to those four warrior components and it will give you some tools to use, much like we are doing in the video or the podcast right now. Plus, you'll see all the other information we have. We have other books to help you in other areas and you'll see the Mental Health Warrior Challenge coin, which I like to refer to as we bring the program with us each and every day. That is also a really neat and exciting way to become a warrior and have that help you out, no matter where you are, every day, everywhere. So have a great rest of the day and remember you're in charge and you have the power to change your life. It is within your grasp. All you have to do is say yes, so I know you will and I can't wait to see you there. Bye.
