Hi everybody, bruce Shooter here with the Mental Health Warrior Program Podcast no Surrender. Now you're going to see some of these episodes entitled 5-Minute Mental Health Warrior Challenges. They are a single tool or a single action you can take, and I'm throwing down that challenge that you use this today. So for today's, we are going to talk about one of the mindset rules. Now, they are a warrior weapon and in this particular case, I think you will find this mindset rule will help keep your emotions centered and help you stay out of trouble, which is always important, because sometimes, with our emotions and when they're running rampant well, it's very tough to stay out of trouble. I know that for a fact, so let's jump into it, because we only got a couple minutes.
Speaker 1:The challenge today is to use mindset rule number two. Now, mindset rule number two for a mental health warrior states respond, not react to life's challenges. Now, let that sink in just for a second. What that means is next time a challenge comes up and we get emotionally charged or the situation just puts the anxiety or things like depression start creeping in, before we rush out and react, like I certainly did in the past a lot of times, I chose a short-term solution, such as drinking or going out to buy my way out of trouble, or a number of other kind of over-the-top, short-term solutions for anxiety that all they did was prolong the misery and bring more problems into my life. So the challenge is let's take today and start using mindset rule number two. Now, I use it each and every day because it is one of those mindset rules or warrior weapons it's both. It is one of those things that we can use to stay out of trouble proactively by building the right mindset, and that mindset is next time a challenge comes up, we're going to respond, not react Now. In that case it could be like taking a literal pause. Give yourself five seconds before you jump to an answer, before you rush into a solution or even react, maybe with anger or letting anxiety roll right over you. We do not want that to happen. So the idea is, this is kind of the pre-work If you're going into a challenge, remember and read the mindset rule and we're going to respond, not react Now.
Speaker 1:The other way and this is exciting too is if you find yourself in the middle of a struggle because this will happen Life will throw things at us. It could be I'm going to run to the store and I come out oh my God, a flat tire. Or, oh my God, I get to the store driving home. I forgot the one item I went for Numerous little tiny things.
Speaker 1:Now, by themselves this probably won't push you into depression or anxiety, but if we let these go throughout the day and we don't resolve them and we don't even deal with them like I used to, you can imagine we're kind of in for a world of hurt. At some point in the day, our challenges will summon up together and they'll put us into depression or they'll put us into an anxiety-filled afternoon, which certainly will not help us get anywhere or get anything done. This is where mindset rule number two comes to the rescue. So again, your challenge is if you find yourself in the midst of a problem and things are just going crazy in your life and your emotions may be all over the map, remember mindset rule two and apply it, and you can do this again, certainly in under five minutes, even five seconds. But we take a few minutes and take a literal pause before we come up with our solution, preventing us from reacting and again causing more problems with short-term solutions or not well thought out answers.
Speaker 1:Now I find this really exciting because mindset rule number two, of which there are 53 of them for a mental health warrior so much I put them into its own book, but imagine just this one and how powerful that is with this new mindset approach that you can put into your life today and we're covering in just five minutes.
Speaker 1:Now that is fantastic, because this is what the warrior is about Small, little steps that we can implement whenever our emotions try to push us over the edge. Take control or a life challenge comes up that is just unexpected and with it come unexpected emotions. And again, these little challenges are to show you that the little, small steps you make, they will add up to big results and that is that is just over the top exciting, as you've heard me say many, many times, and that's what being a warrior is all about. So it looks like the five minutes are almost up, but remember, your challenge today is to go out and use mindset rule number two respond, not react to life's challenges, and I can guarantee you'll get better results, you'll stay in control and you will be using your mental health warrior power to build that future and that day you want, because you will be responding.
